Abstract

This article critically examines the elements of intertextuality in the sketches of Anwar Sadeed. It begins with an overview of Urdu sketch writing and its tradition to provide literary and artistic context. The study employs the theoretical framework of intertextuality as conceptualized by Julia Kristeva, outlining its key features. The analysis highlights literary, historical, and socio-political intertextuality in Anwar Sadeed’s sketches, demonstrating how references are organically embedded rather than treated as isolated sections. The findings show that his sketches transcend mere biographical or narrative description, engaging with broader literary traditions, historical consciousness, and socio-political realities. The study concludes that intertextuality is a central, dynamic element in Sadeed’s writing, enriching it with intellectual depth and critical insight.
